Social Enterprise Mark entrepreneur bids farewell

Paula Howley, the key developer behind the Social Enterprise Mark, is leaving the Social Enterprise Mark Co to move on to new challenges.

Paula project managed the Mark from its inception in 2005 through to the success it is experiencing today with more than 200 Mark holders nationwide.

“I am hugely proud of what I have achieved for the social enterprise movement. Social enterprises should be the preferred choice for customers because of the social aims that drive them and the impact they create. But for the customer it has simply been too complicated with so many models and legal forms. Not any more! With the Social Enterprise Mark we have developed a way for customers to see at a glance and with confidence “this is a social enterprise that is trading for people and planet”.

“And it has been a privilege! I have loved every minute. The team involved in the Mark has been outstanding and I have had some absolutely critical support from sector colleagues – like John Goodman from Co-operatives UK and Sally Reynolds from Social Firms UK. Both RISE and the Big Lottery took a big risk by supporting this project at an early stage but we always knew that the Social Enterprise Mark was long overdue.”

“I have no doubt that even more success is just around the corner for the Social Enterprise Mark and the team. However it is the right time for me to look for some new challenges. I am currently in discussions about some very exciting propositions – so more news on that soon!”

Lucy Findlay, Managing Director of the Social Enterprise Mark Company added,

"The Social Enterprise Mark was Paula’s baby and we would like to extend our wholehearted thanks for the unique role she has played – there simply wouldn’t have been a Social Enterprise Mark without her. We wish her all the best for the future.”
