Cabbies, City and Call Centre workers and 50+ are amongst those who are being urged to get out of their cabs, come out from behind their desks or get up off the sofa and put on their running shoes for three2go’s East London Trail Marathon and 5k &1k fun run, being run by new social enterprise Sporting Bunnies on 12 September.
The 2go race series which takes place in Lee Valley and Hackney Marshes has been inspired by the annual countdown to the 2012 Games and the promise of cultural and sporting opportunities for all.
Eddie Brocklesby (66 years), director of three2go and Sporting Bunnies, who herself took up running at the age of 50 and is now a triathlete and marathon runner, said: 'To celebrate the launch of three2go, we have developed a nine-week training programme to help those who want to get fit, or who want to increase their fitness, to take part including ‘Fit@50+’ for over 50’s and ‘Cabbies on the Run’ for London cabbies. And our marathon runners will be pleased to know that there are still places available to run the three2Go trail marathon through the Lee Valley.
'As a measured UK Athletic Race, the Marathon will count towards Good for Age for those wanting to get a London Marathon place.
'Running is a great way to get fit and lose weight. What better way to spend the summer than enjoying our lovely parks and waterways and discovering your local area as part of your training routine to take part in the three2go Marathon or 5k race.'
The 2go race series is run by Sporting Bunnies; a new social enterprise set up to encourage those who are less fit to take part running.
The event wouldn’t be possible without a great bunch of supporters who are giving their time and expertise. three2go’s operation’s team includes TV Sports Commentator Annie Emmerson, Serpentine Golden Girl, triathlete and marathon runner, Hilary Webber, professional triathlete and Ironman, Rachel Joyce and Serpentine Club Member, London Marathon 2008 – fastest running time for an amputee, Runners World, Runner of the Year - Abdifatah Dhuhulow.
The three2Go Launch is 11.00am – 2 pm at Toynbee Hall 28 Commercial St, London, E1 6LS.
The nine week training programme available at and from the launch date is to help those of you who
• want to take up running and get fit
• those who want to get their speeds up
• for those of you who are race ready
If you can’t make it to the launch, don’t worry, you can still enter to run the 5k race and follow one of our training programmes, which you can download from www.three2go.org.uk after the 11th July.
A special focus for this year’s event is to encourage those who may not have done exercise for some time to get fit and lose weight by taking part in our 5k race. Those who really get bitten by the running bug can even consider going on to run a half marathon and then the three2go full marathon in September 2010.
At the launch you will be able to hear from our fitness coaches, medical experts and nutritionists and have your running style assessed to ensure you are fitted with running shoes that are right for you. You can also be inspired by the Serpentine Golden Girls (a group of 50+ women from Serpentine Running Club who regularly compete in Marathons and Triathlons).
Remember if you want to come along on the 11th July complete an online form at www.three2go.org.uk/contact to book your place. Entry for the Marathon is £23 for UKA affiliated club members and £25 for everyone else, £5 for the 5k race and FREE for the 1k fun run.
