Future Arts a not-for-profit social enterprise has joined with Leeds City Council’s Future Jobs Scheme to create 16 job opportunities for 18-24 year olds who have been unemployed from between 6 and 12 months.
The new jobs will be funded by the Government initiative, The Future Jobs Fund, which aims to support the creation of jobs for long term unemployed young people.
Through a variety of projects and training Future Arts aims to support young people and communities from areas of disadvantage to achieve their aspirations and gain essential skills and experience in creative technology.
On 15 March the successful Leeds applicants will begin a 6 month paid job placement with Future Arts. They will receive guidance and training from an experienced support team, including music, media and graphic design coaches to help them grow in their roles. By providing design services to the local community and other organisations, the recruits will develop a portfolio of achievements to help them gain future long-term employment.
Paula Temple Managing Director at Future Arts said “We are really proud and excited to be able to offer these jobs to young people in Leeds. Without an alternative to higher education young people can find themselves unemployed for a very long time. We can provide a support structure, share our knowledge and expertise and help these young people to gain the relevant skills and experience to build a career in creative technology”.
Gemma Povey Creative Director at Future Arts said “This is just the beginning. By improving a young person's self worth it can help them to visualize their futures and begin to allow themselves to have goals and ambitions. We hope we can give even more young people the same amazing opportunity following this project”.
