Exposure, Haringey’s multi-award winning youth media charity, has secured another grant to help sustain, as well as advance, its innovative educational youth-media services during the economic downturn.
Lloyds TSB Foundation has generously donated £7,400 towards the launch of ‘Exposure iTV’ – a pilot independent internet television (iTV) platform – for disseminating the unique perspective of excluded young people, both to raise their self esteem, and so that they develop communication and presentation skills to prepare them for mainstream education and ultimate employment in the creative industries.
Young people will gain confidence in their ability to make a difference in their own lives, as they tackle issues in which they are experts, turning problems faced into opportunities to educate/inform their peers and the wider community.
“The media, and in particular television, plays an important but not always positive role in young people’s lives. Exposure iTV will enable vulnerable young people to use the media in a positive way, for themselves and others,” enthused Johann Taljaard, who will be managing the project for Exposure, ensuring a great experience for young people who will take away skills and experiences for the future. He has worked in digital interactive television for over 10 years.
At the cutting edge of youth media for over 14 years, Exposure has developed groundbreaking methods enabling vulnerable young people to express themselves freely to their peers, through a range of award-winning youth media products, including the flagship Exposure youth magazine, distributed to schools and youth clubs throughout Haringey.
