Eastern Enterprise Hub and Improvement East Partner to Deliver Enterprising Public Services
The Eastern Enterprise Hub and Improvement East have partnered to deliver a specialist study programme for public sector leaders charged with creating a more entrepreneurial and sustainable business model for public services.
The programme has been developed by the Eastern Enterprise Hub to address the skills needed by many public sector leaders who are facing the challenge of transforming and out sourcing services into stand alone organisations, often as social enterprises. With course content designed by the Eastern Enterprise Hub’s School for Social Entrepreneurs – East, the new programme will be delivered at a number of locations across East Anglia.
The programme is in response to the increase in demand for information about social enterprise as a business model and means of sustainable and quality service delivery from public sector leaders all over the region. Starting in January 2013, the eight-day course, which takes place over three months, has been designed to address the strategic, tactical and leadership skills needed to transform a service previously delivered by the public sector into a successful, viable and sustainable social business.
Leading the learning sessions will be recognised experts in a range of key business disciplines alongside some of the UK’s top social entrepreneurs and other business leaders from across the region.
Building on the enterprise learning expertise developed by the Eastern Enterprise Hub, the programme will include modules in policy and governance, tendering for contacts, personal effectiveness and media skills.
Andrea Davies, Eastern Enterprise Hub Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be able to work with Improvement East to support senior level staff make the transition from public sector employee to leader of a business delivering important services for customers. The EE Hub’s unique offer of specialist enterprise learning, in partnership with business leaders and established social entrepreneurs, is all about creating a talent pool of specialist social enterprise knowledge ready to address the challenges of public service delivery across our region.”
Cllr Richard Stay, Chairman, Improvement East, said: "This is an exciting programme which will help equip the sector with the business skills necessary to transform key public services so that they are more efficient and effective for the future.”
The partnership with Improvement East, which works with local authorities to ensure high quality and efficiency in public service delivery, will mean that course content addresses the very specific needs of leaders in the public sector and their management teams charged with establishing services as viable enterprises.
