The second year of the RBS SE100 Index has launched with a new regional focus.

Last year 350 social enterprises entered the index – a market intelligence tool tracking the growth and impact of the sector. There was £25,000 in cash on offer for the best enterprises and a growth champion, impact champion and a trailblazing newcomer were crowned in an awards ceremony in June.

However, the index is not just about the champions. A wealth of data was pulled out on social enterprises across the UK, and published in the RBS SE100 Index Data Report.

Among other things we learned that the south east is the UK’s fastest growing region in the SE100 with an average growth of 56.07 per cent and the north west is the best at reporting its impact with organisations on average scoring 52 per cent in our impact measurement test.

This year there will be an even stronger focus on the regions with more information than ever collected.

And to get regional rivalries really fired up, each month Social Enterprise will pit different regions against each other, taking a snapshot of the data collected so far and highlighting the enterprises are leading in their region at the time of going to press.

In the next issue of the magazine it’s a northern affair with the north west, north east and Yorks and Humber social enterprises in the index under the spotlight.

Northern social enterprises can help fly the flag for their region by signing up to the index today.
