Elderly ladies drumming, a happy bike ride, cooking up a storm in the kitchen – what image sums up your social enterprise?

These were some of the entries from previous Social Vision competitions, which is back for its third year.

Social enterprises across the UK and Ireland again have the chance to show off their life-changing impact and win prizes thanks to the business-at-its-best themed photo contest, launched today by the Social Enterprise Coalition (SEC), Triodos Bank and Social Enterprise magazine.

The winning photographer and featured social enterprise will win £750 each and the picture will appear in a 2011 calendar along side the other shortlisted images.

The featured social enterprise will also win one year’s free membership to the Social Enterprise Coalition and two tickets to the social enterprise conference Voice 11. And as if that’s not enough, they will also scoop a year’s subscription to Social Enterprise and £1,000 of advertising.

Regional heats will be taking place in each of the nine English regions and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland before the finalists go head to head to win the overall prizes. The winner will be decided by an online public vote. The competition closes on Friday 1 October at 5pm.

All of the shortlisted photographs will go on display in London in November and the regional finalists will be announced on Social Enterprise Day on Thursday 18 November.

Last year’s winner was the Secret Seed Society, which gets children to love healthy food with its vegetable story and activity books. The photograph was taken by Briony Campbell.

SEC CEO Peter Holbrook said: ‘Over the past two years we have been amazed by the quality of the entries and the powerful way in which they have communicated the benefits of social enterprise.

‘The competition is a great opportunity for us to learn more about new and existing social enterprises from across the UK and the brilliant work that they do’

Charles Middleton, managing director of Triodos Bank, added: ‘This competition is a celebration of the spirit and success of social enterprise, which is the lifeblood of the UK’s future economy.’
