Peter Holbrook has been announced as the new CEO of the Social Enterprise Coalition (SEC).

The CEO of the Sunlight Development Trust in Gillingham, Kent, and a Social Enterprise Ambassador, Holbrook takes over from Jonathan Bland in the New Year.

Holbrook said he would promote social enterprise as a model that can change business and society.

'Politically and economically, social enterprise is set to be tested like never before,' he said.

'But alongside the undoubted challenges that face the sector, we have a unique opportunity to promote an economic model that can change not only the way we do business but also society at large.

'I'm honoured to lead SEC during this period of change, which would be daunting were it not for Jonathan's inspiring legacy and the incredible team I'll be proud to be working with.'

SEC chair Claire Dove hailed Holbrook as 'one of the most innovative leaders working in social enterprise today'.

'He brings with him the right experience and an enormous amount of passion,' she said.

Holbrook has built his reputation as an effective and passionate social enterprise leader at Sunlight. He is admired for his ability to forge links across sectors - including companies such as Sony - and across political parties. Sunlight has hosted visits by both Gordon Brown and David Cameron, as well as numerous other MPs.

Sunlight itself provides a mix of innovative social, medical and community services, including a radio station, a GP surgery and spin-off businesses such as Café Sunlight. The overriding aim of the enterprise is to improve health and wellbeing.

Dove added: 'Peter's entrepreneurial abilities, the pioneering work he has done at Sunlight and his commitment to social enterprise make him the right person for the job. On behalf of the SEC board and staff, I am absolutely delighted to welcome him to the Coalition.'

Bland, who has been SEC CEO for six years, will continue full time in the post until 31 October and after that will provide interim support until Holbrook starts in the New Year.

Regeneration

I'm pleased to read that Peter sees social enterprise as a means to economic regeneration and hope this may create interest in like minded efforts in Eastern Europe.
