Tension builds as RBS SE100 Index prepares to reveal £50,000 winners

Excitement is growing among 11 organisations shortlisted to share £50,000 of prizes in the RBS SE100 Index of top social businesses.

The shortlisted businesses – chosen from a total of 350 on the index – were revealed in this month’s issue of Social Enterprise magazine.

The names of the three prizewinners – the RBS SE100 Growth Champion, the RBS SE100 Impact Champion and the RBS SE100 Trailblazing Newcomer – will be announced at a special evening celebration on 9 June by the Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd.

The minister will be joined by the CEO of Business and Commercial Banking at RBS, Ian Cowie, by former Dragons’ Den investor Doug Richard and by Social Enterprise Coalition CEO Peter Holbrook who will all be keynote speakers.

The event will also see the launch of the RBS SE100 Data Report – listing all those on the Index and presenting a wide range of statistics covering growth, impact and turnover data from the regions and countries, as well as different business markets.

A special film has been commissioned from the Wise Group, one of the social enterprises on the shortlist, telling the success story of social enterprise under the themes of ‘growth, impact and ambition’.

Duncan Sloan, Head of Community Banking at RBS, said: ‘RBS has been committed to the social enterprise market in UK for over a decade, and we are thrilled to be driving this pioneering initiative. The index, which is the first of its kind, will prove to be a really valuable benchmark for the entire social enterprise sector.’

Tim West, editor of Social Enterprise magazine, said: ‘We are hugely excited about the launch of the report and about revealing our prizewinners. But this more than a one-off celebration – we have set out to create a strong market intelligence and communications tool to support the sector in charting its success from year to year.’

The shortlisted organisations are:

Growth: Mow & Grow; the National Community Wood Recycling Project; Real Baby Milk CIC

Impact: Cosmic; FRC Group; Speaking Up (now merged to become Advocacy Partners Speaking Up); The Wise Group

Trailblazers: Create Foundation CIC; Elixir Foundations CIC; Frame of Mind CIC; Spartans Community Football Academy

I think it is fantastic that

I think it is fantastic that there is a special film being commissioned from the Wise Group. I would love to see this movie that tells the success story of social enterprise. I never heard who the three winners were. Is there an article someone on SocialEnterpriseLive.com that I can read about it?
