'Our approach is based on partnership'

Fusion Lifestyle is a provider of inclusive and accessible leisure facilities in London, Surrey and Oxford. Its services include gym sessions for people with mental health problems, summer play schemes for children with special needs, and dance classes for over-60s. It reported a turnover of £20,351,000 in 2007/08 and very healthy growth. The charity, which was set up in 2000, runs 45 facilities and employs 1,600 people.

Partnerships with local authorities, voluntary organisations and schools are key to Fusion Lifestyle's growth. CEO Peter Kay says: 'Our approach is based on partnership. We work with local organisations and clubs to help people achieve healthier lifestyles, and we promote equality in sport, encouraging those who have not traditionally taken part.'

As a registered charity, it uses all its income to develop and improve its services, and recently appointed a team of sports development managers to deliver targeted sports programmes within hard-to-reach communities.

Its social impact report for 2009 recorded over 7.5m visits to its centres, with 950,000 of those being by under-19s and 750,000 by people over 60.

Last year it secured a 15-year partnership with the London Borough of Hounslow to develop and manage 14 sports, leisure and community centres, and a signed a similar 15-year agreement with Mole Valley District Council.
